The Strangest Thing – Using Generative AI To Create A Horror Series Trailer

In my latest experiment, I used a few updated Generative AI tools and capabilities to produce an AI Horror Series Trailer, inspired by the 80s.

How I Did It

Here are the various tools and techniques used:

Scriptwriting – The ideation and scriptwriting (including the narration) was done using ChatGPT.

Visuals –

• I tested the creation of the key scene images on both Dall-E 3, as well as MidJourney but eventually stuck with the latter for most of the scenes given higher quality and a new ability to upscale images by 2x.
• I then took the images into RunwayML and used the new Motion Brush feature to add subtle animation to certain parts of each image…this results in a MUCH better result than previous attempts to animate the entire image.
• I then upscaled the resulting video snippets using Topaz Video AI to improve the resolution.
• Overall this workflow worked pretty well…the only weak link is still the ability for Generative AI tools to produce legible, targeted text as is evident in the image of the newspaper (this one was actually from Dall-E 3).

Sound – I used ElevenLabs for the audio narration and got the background music track from YouTube Studio.

Editing – As usual, I used Final Cut Pro X…though pretty much any video editing tool would work equally well.
