Day 5 of 30 Day AI Challenge – Storytelling

Day 5 of the #30DayAIChallenge and it’s time to put AI storytelling to the test!

For those just joining us, every day during this challenge, I’m going to try and do something different or better, using currently available Artificial Intelligence tools.

Google Bard isn’t quite available where I am yet, so I decided to put ChatGPT to the test, but also a couple of other tools I stumbled across. One of these is the “Sassbook AI Story Generator”, which offers up some prompts. The story eventually generated feels a bit disconnected though, plus I suspect you’ve got to play with the model a fair bit till you get something worthwhile (see example below):

Another tool I stumbled across is DreamPress…the interface here is a little better and allows you to specify individual characters and traits, plus also define story arcs (see example below):

Finally, Canva now also offers an AI Story and Plot Generator, although my cursory test with the tool didn’t quite yield any results…

So…on to everyone’s favourite chat companion at the moment, ChatGPT. I started off with a simple ask…a short bedtime story. The model delivered a pretty impressive story, albeit a lot longer than expected. However I can totally see myself using this (potentially putting it into a text to audio reader) with the kids!

Next, I upped the ante on the ask…here’s what ChatGPT produced:

Here’s a couple more asks (why not throw in a little science fiction?)…and again, ChatGPT delivers! The storyline is a tad weak, but there’s only so much you can do in three paragraphs. It gets the time period and setting spot on!

Finally, as we’re getting into children’s bedtime stories, why not create a book cover too? I asked ChatGPT for an appropriate midjourney prompt and ended up with the following four options…pretty happy with that!
